Definition and Types of Logic Gates

Logic Gates- logic gates are the basic building blocks of any digital circuits. Logic gates plays an important role while desihning digital circuits. Logic gates works on the boolean expression to express their results. Logic gates are used to make simple to complex to more complex circuits. Logic gates are madeup of resistors, transistors and diodes. The logic of these digital circuits is denoted in the form of 0 and 1. Here 0 determines the off condition and 1 determines the on condition. Logic gates are used in ICs, digital circuits etc.
Types of logic gates
There are seven types of logic gates :-
- EXOR (Exclusive OR)
- EXNOR (Exclusive NOT)
AND gate – In the And types of logic gates there are two inputs named as A and B and an output named Y. in this circuit the output becomes HIGH when both of the input becomes HIGH. whenever you had make one of this input HIGH the output remains LOW. The symbol and truth table are given below :-

OR gate – In the OR types of logic gates the output is HIGH when either or both the inputs are HIGH. Its output will be LOW if both of the inputs are LOW. The symbol and truth table of the OR gate is given below :-

NOT gate- NOT types of logic gates acts like inverter in the logic gate. it inverts the input and gives an inverted output.
e.g- If the input of the NOT gate is LOW its output will be HIGH and if the input is HIGH the output will be LOW.

NAND gate- NAND types of logic gates acts like AND gate but in inveted manner. It is opposite of the and gate. Its output will be LOW if the both inputs are HIGH otherwise the output of the NAND gate will be LOW.

NOR gate- NOR types of logic gates is the cobination of the NOT gate in the inverted manner. When the both of the inputs are LOW in this gate then the output will be HIGH, otherwise the output will be LOW.

Ex-or gate- Ex-or types of logic gates is made with the combination of two gates. it is made up of the combination of the NAND and NOT gate. the ouput of the Ex-or gate is HIGH when any each of the input is HIGH. if the both of the inputs are high the output will be low.
